Caffè Milani

An Italian multi award winning roaster with a Swiss attitude to quality.

Lately known more for its flashy residents like George Clooney, lake Como is a beautiful Italian region near the border with Switzerland. With an elegant lake shore promenade, the city of Como makes a wonderful home for Caffè Milani, a company founded in 1937 by Celestino Milani, owned and managed today by his son Pierluigi.

It seems that some attitudes normally associated with the Swiss neighbors, such as a meticulous obsession for product quality and the interest in technological innovation, have migrated south to Caffè Milani.
The product portfolio, originally created with the Italian bar in mind, offers the traditional Italian espresso blends that have made the name of the Milani house, complemented by a range of refined single origin coffees.
The best Milani espresso blends have received the „Miscela Certificata Espresso Italiano“ approval of the Istituto Nazionale Espresso Italiano. In addition, two espresso blends (Gran Aroma and Gran Espresso), as well as some of the single origin products, have won Gold Medals at 4 out of 5 editions of the prestigious International Coffee Tasting competitions.

The company uses a combination of its Maestro Tostatore (Master Roaster) art and experience of traditional Italian blending and roasting. Modern production techniques and equipment are used for an consistent roast, with quality testing throughout the production process.

As a new venture dedicated to promoting coffee discovery Milani have created a concept shop named Caffè & Caffè that exists in their home of Como and in a selection of other cities. Here, coffee gourmets can sample and compare various high quality single-origin coffes (Jamaica Blue Mountain, Guatemala Antigua, Ethiopia Sidamo, Puerto Rico Yauco, Galapagos San Cristobal and many others) and some of the best Milani espresso blends.

The Caffè & Caffè concept shops have both a sales and tasting area, that employ some clever technology. Coffee is brought to a customer on an automated conveyor directly from the storage silo where the freshly roasted coffee is stored. This is then immediately and automatically packed for the client to ensure no freshness is lost. A small coffee roaster provides the opportunity for personal roasts to be created for coffee connoisseurs or those ready for a little coffee adventure.
