La Genovese

Albenga is a little medieval port town on the Ligurian coast (the so called Italian Riviera), midway between the beach resorts of Savona and the song festivals city of San Remo.

The company started with founder Giuseppe Borea opening a coffee shop in Albenga in 1936. From the very start, as the company name testifies, La Genovese affirmed and maintained its links with the great port of Genova, where its founder was from.

The company is still owned and managed by the Borea family, Dario Borea is CEO and Matteo Borea is export manager. This is a guarantee of its loyalty to the values that made La Genovese successful: total dedication to roasting excellence, product quality and the effort to have this quality recognized beyond personal subjectivity and taste.

La Genovese is a serial winner of the International Coffe Tasting competitions, with 5 medals over 4 editions of the contest. For instance the Miscela Royal blend has won the gold medal in both the 2012 and 2014 editions.

To bring coffee roasting to perfection in terms of flavour development and color homogeneity in their blends, La Genovese use a special piece of equipment from STA Impianti called the „hot clean air system“. In traditional roasting machines, a gas flame heats a rotating metal drum inside where the coffee beans are roasted. The hot air that touches the beans contain (even if in small quantities) gases and smoke from combustion. With this equipment, the flame doesn’t heat the drum directly; it heats an airtight circuit through which clean air from outside is circulated and then fed into the roasting drum. The hot air that contacts the beans is therefore clean from any gases and smoke. This improves the purity and intensity of the flavor of La Genovese blends substantially. Because of this process, La Genevese calls their coffee „ecologically roasted“.
