Filicori Zecchini

A family owned coffee business is becoming a modern ambassador of great Italian espresso.

When partners Aldo Filicori and Luigi Zecchini created their coffee roasting company in Bologna in 1919, they could not have imagined that their names would get such an enthusiastic following on New York’s 46th Avenue, almost 100 years later.

The name Filicori Zecchini has always been synonymous with the art of blending and roasting coffee beans to perfection, but recently they have been increasing their efforts in pursuit of the perfect coffee. Filicori Zecchini believe that nothing should be left to chance along the chain from green bean to cup. Therefore they have designed their own very Italian coffee shop concept that they’re bringing to life in America, Asia and Europe.

This small network of cafés under their own brand is Filicori’s response to the international high street chains that have come to dominate modern cities and to their Italian sounding, but not so Italian tasting coffee.

In our view, what makes Filicori Zecchini’s branded coffee shops credible to the espresso fans is that they insist on the same high quality „Espresso Italiano Certificato“ blends  that made Filicori famous in Italy’s best bars and restaurants. Following an effort that is uncommon in the industry, they have received the Espresso Italiano Certification for all of their blends. The company’s standing in the industry is such that Luigi Zecchini is also the current president of the Istituto Nazionale Espresso Italiano - INEI).

In parallel with launching their own café concept, Filicori Zecchini are running the highly respected barista training facilities Laboratorio dell’Espresso in Milan and Bologna. This is where baristas take several training courses, starting with coffee preparation according to the standards of Istituto Nazionale Espresso Italiano, to customer service and presentation.

The Filicori Zecchini Kavè blend, was voted a winner in the prestigious International Coffee Tasting 2012 and 2014 competitions in the Espresso Italiano category.

This ever evolving coffee roaster has always known how to stay contemporary, however the secret that made them successful remained the same: a focus on the sourcing of the highest quality green coffee, and a total dedication to highest roasting standards, whereby each green coffee is roasted individually before blending in order to ensure the optimal roasting. A combination of traditional Italian blending art, uncompromising investment in roasting quality and up to date technology has made this success story sustainable over time.
