Pasticceria Viscontea
The location of Bar Viscontea, away from many tourists, keeps it a favourite among the locals. Young families picking up some treats on their way home and a few business men kept the bar and outside seating busy.
By comparison with historical Milanese institutions, Viscontea is relatively new (created in the 1980’s) but its reputation is nevertheless very established. The Capo Pasticcere and owner Michele Mastroritti is a well respected authority in Milan. He has built Viscontea after many years as responsible for pastries and sweets at historical names like Saint Ambroeus and Biffi.
There is a luminosity to the space, with light reflecting from the warm marble. The atmosphere is similarly warm and friendly. The bar is long, and extends into a beautiful pasticceria. Over the bar hangs an impressive chandelier, so there is no doubt that you have arrived in grand location.
A single Barista, clearly very experienced, made, served and delivered coffee and fresh juices to all present, skilfully juggling all of the tasks with control and finesse. The authentic Milanese coffee blend provided by Il Caffè Ambrosiano is transformed into exceptional espresso here, which explains the top 3 “coffee beans” rating awarded to Viscontea by Gambero Rosso.
