Marchesi

Milan
Caffè Bonomi
On the stylish Corso Magenta in Milan, the Pasticceria Marchesi is at the pinnacle of the high-end Italian café experience. The house opened in 1824, became soon famous for its pastry, panettone and coffee, and was entirely owned by the Marchesi family until 2014 when it was acquired by Prada to become their global hospitality brand.

The beautiful window displays are like Milanese fashion boutiques. A very stylish and affluent crowd take a coffee after a day’s shopping or working at one of the nearby offices. They mix with the tourists that wander around the place with wide eyes, astonished by both the sweets and café itself.

This is a small, and atmospheric space with a sombre mix of colours and materials. Colour is provided by the bright range of sweets on sale and by the animated and friendly crowd.

There is a friendly but formal service, and this is a space that cries out ‘quality’, from the confectionary on sale, to the cups and saucers used to serve the coffee. Pasticceria Marchesi use a coffee blend designed to perfection in a long partnership with Caffè Bonomi of Milan and was honored with “3 coffee beans” out of 3 by the Gambero Rosso Bar d’Italia guide.

Pasticceria Marchesi, Via Santa Maria alla Porta, 11a, 20123 Milan.
