Pavé

Milan
Caffè Rojto
Pavé (name coming from “pavé” - French for “pavement”) is not a traditional Italian café. It is a trendy and young space that would be equally at home in London or Berlin. Pavé suggest they are part of a ‘Breakfast revolution’ - we are not what this means, but it certainly is a revolution in how Italy serves coffee.

The bustling young crowd can be seen from the outside street through a large and open front window covered in huge illustrations.

There is an open kitchen and bar that creates a very friendly and informal atmosphere. The staff are casual and friendly and there is nothing to distinguish between staff and customers.

There is no real bar to stand at (as Italians would in their typical bar), but plenty of space to sit on the range of eclectic, retro, salvaged and repurposed furniture. Upstairs is a seating area where you could enjoy more seclusion.

Pavé have stylish menus that contain offerings for different times of the day, with each of the menus themselves having a different design.

Pavé also offer a good range of provision items for sale of their own production and under their own name, from behind mesh fronted shelves, all carrying their distinctive branding.

For coffee, Pavé have steered clear of the mainstream and have chosen the local Caffè Rojto from Vercelli as a partner, with great results. Although a relative newcomer they’ve been awarded a top 3 out of 3 “coffee beans” by Gambero Rosso which, particularly in highly competitive Milan, is completely remarkable.

Pavé just had a well deserved fantastic year: is was also a finalist of the “Best Bars of Italy 2015” competition and the only café in Milan nominated for “the best breakfast in Italy 2015” by Gambero Rosso.

Pavè, Via Felice Casati, 27, 20124 Milan.
